Start Planning for Summer Now at the Davie Family YMCA
Despite the chilly temperatures, summer fun is just a few weeks away. At the Davie Family YMCA, we are planning for a summer full of learning, activities, and lifelong memories.
Summer camps at the Davie Family YMCA offer a mix of learning activities aimed at stopping summer learning loss, as well as three proven areas to impact a child’s development: friendship, accomplishment and belonging.
“With school out during the summer, many kids don’t get enough physical activity or learning—a critical gap the Y is addressing,” says Richard Reinholz, Executive Director of the Davie Family YMCA. “In our summer day camp and specialty camps, kids are in a safe environment with nurturing adults where they feel welcome, develop character and explore new talents and interests and reach their potential. We want to ensure that kids in our camp program go home with so much excitement for all they’ve accomplished and enjoyed that they can’t wait to come back the next day.”
The Y’s camp activities focus on impacting the social-emotional, cognitive and physical development of all kids. Here are several of the camps being offered at the Y this summer:
Traditional Summer Day Camp offers new experiences, skill building, a sense of community and lasting friendships. The summer zooms by with an action-packed schedule of swimming, arts & crafts, sports and more. Creative activities ensure that young minds stay active, while having an absolute blast. The Davie Family YMCA offers half day and preschool camp options. Financial assistance is available.
Specialty and Sports Camps are a great option to enhance your child’s interest in a particular sport or activity. Children are more motivated to do well in school and other activities when they excel outside the classroom. Building athletic skills during summer months is a great way to stay active and help your child achieve goals during the sports season. This summer, the Davie Family YMCA will offer camps for Golf, Soccer, Tennis, Basketball and Tumble. The Y will also offer a half-day Youth Stroke Clinic to focus on swimming activities including stroke development, relay races, growth in character and sportsmanship.
YMCA Camp Hanes changes kids for the better. During evenings spent around a campfire and days having fun with friends, children grow. The resident camp sits below the beauty of Sauratown Mountain in King, NC (just 25 miles north of Winston-Salem). Core values are taught in everything we do from the ever-popular blob and zip lines to our new, state-of-the-art Shotgun Range and Equestrian Center. When kids are out of school, they can face hurdles that prevent them from reaching their full potential, related to hunger, water safety, academics, safe spaces to play, and health. Through summer camp and other youth development programs, nationwide the Y helps over 9 million youth to “hop the gap” and achieve more, providing a safe to place to learn, stay healthy and build friendships.
