When on the hunt for prom fashions, Shawna Truman wants shoppers to think outside the box. The owner of Peace of Mind Consignment, Shawna said she now has over a hundred dresses in the store and is taking more every day.
Located in Eastgate Shopping Center (formerly Squire Boone Plaza) off U.S. 601, Peace of Mind has been in business almost four years but recently relocated to the larger space, allowing them to carry more inventory and creating more room for prom dresses, wedding dresses, other clothing and furniture.
Sizes of the prom dresses the store currently has range from 00 to 22, with names such as Sherri Hills and Mac Duggal, with prices ranging from $40 to $250. Several of the dresses are brand new with tags. One that retailed for $1,300 is being offered for $250.
Two piece dresses and those with large floral patterns, very popular last year, are still in, and the store has plenty of those, in addition to strapless dresses, ones with sleeves, beaded ones and more simple ones. What you won’t find at the shop are stained, torn or out-of-date dresses, as Shawna requires all dresses be in good shape, laundered, and from within the past five years.
To make the store a one-stop shopping experience for prom, Shawna also offers new jewelry, earrings, necklaces and bracelets, as she has expanded offerings to include retail accessories for not only prom but also every day.
“I’ve started dabbling in retail because I would hear clients choose a top and then say they wish we had leggings. So, I am now stocking leggings, scarves, boot cuffs and other accessories,” she said.
In addition to furniture and shoes and clothing for every member of the family, including the bride-to-be, the store also carries a large amount of baby items.
“If you need it for a baby, we typically have it,” Shawna said.
Peace of Mind Consignment is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The store may be reached at 336-753-1495 and is on Facebook at Peace of Mind Consignment.
